When exporting a cell containing "<" to Excel, if the "render" option of exportData is set to true, the "<" will be escaped to "<" in the output.
For example, in this demo, if you set "<a" in a cell and export it, it will be output as "<a"; if you set render to false, it will be output as "<a".
